About Us
Bacchus Theatre Trust (Bacchus Theatre) is a charitable trust with its main objectives being the promotion and development of the theatrical arts with an emphasis on composers and scriptwriters working in Youth Theatre.
The works are specifically written to suit from middle school all the way up to Community Theatre. The works are well suited for the energies and attention spans of younger performers to the consummate amateur. Generally, the music is written in keys that are appropriate for developing voices, and all shows can be expanded to accommodate as many performers as can fit on your stage.
The objects and purposes of the Trust (the “Trust Purposes”) are as follows:
(a) To encourage the advancement and development of Youth Theatre by NZ playwrights, composers, librettists, lyrists and directors (‘Writers & Directors’).
(b) To raise funds through such activities as membership, earnings, grants, sponsorship, donations or/and commissions to enable the Trust to provide support and assistance consistent with its charitable purposes, and to generally do all acts, matters and things that the Trustees consider necessary or conducive to further attain the Trust’s purposes as set out above.
(c) To provide support for the performance of original pieces of work by New Zealand's Writers and Directors in youth theatre.
(d) To promote and support New Zealand ‘Writers and Directors’ by holding events and workshops aimed at connecting Writers and Directors with theatre practitioners in youth theatre.
(e) To assist in the distribution of performance rights for original pieces of Youth Theatre work by New Zealand ‘Writers and Directors’.
